November 30th, 2009

martin searle solicitors, employment law specialists in Brighton, is joining forces with Relentless Software and Madgex to create a new HR group for Sussex’s burgeoning digital media industry. The group will meet monthly for up-to-the-minute employment law training and to share best practice and polices which have most impact on the digital media sector.

martin searle solicitors‘ director Fiona Martin says: “The group is designed to be an informal way for HR professionals and others with responsibility for personnel in the digital media world to network, share ideas and develop and update their skills and knowledge. It is an open group and we look forward to bringing in members from across Brighton and beyond.”

The group will have inaugural drinks at Hotel du Vin, Ship Street, Brighton, at 5.30pm on Wednesday 2 December 2009. This is an opportunity for anyone interested to meet and suggest topics for 2010. Membership will be £25 for the year and events will be free.

Hanna Smith, Madgex’s HR director, will host the group’s first meeting at the company’s North Street offices on Thursday 28 January 2010. The subject will be appraisals and Fiona Martin will talk about the role of the appraisal in performance management. She will also give insights into recent performance dismissal cases in the Employment Tribunal. To book, contact Kat Blakeney at martin searle solicitors on 01273 609911 or email kat@ms-solicitors.co.uk.

Helen Vergel de Dios, HR manager at Relentless Software, said: “This is a great opportunity for those of us working in HR in like-minded industries to get together to share best practice as well as having a support network to informally bounce ideas off.”

Future meetings will cover topical and relevant HR and employment law issues including, Compromise Agreements, Additional Paternity Leave from 2011, the Equality Bill, recruitment, as well as managing ill health and performance.
