Making sense of employment law - workplace discrimination

disability: workplace discrimination and employment discrimination

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 now applies to all employers both large and small with effect from October 1, 2004. As a consequence it is important that all employers are aware of their obligations with regards to workplace discrimination and employment discrimination. But most of all they should not be afraid of employing or retaining in employment someone with a disability.

If you are an employer we can advise you how to draw up and implement an equal opportunities policy which will safeguard against unintentional employment discrimination and make discrimination in the workplace a thing of the past. We can also provide training on how to deal with long-term sickness absence and how to make reasonable adjustments if someone's disability makes it difficult or impossible for them to continue in their role.

If you are an individual and believe you have suffered discrimination at work or any other form of employment discrimination please contact us. It may be that we can suggest ways to your employer to help you remain in employment, or that we can facilitate an early retirement. An Employment Tribunal, however, may be the only option. If this is the case we can advise and, if necessary, represent you.
