HR Matters in Brighton – Thursday 26 November 2015

HR Matters is a bimonthly HR Forum for business owners, HR Managers, Directors and employees responsible for personnel issues, who work in any sector.

Fiona Martin, Director and Head of Employment Law coordinates HR Matters with Jane Schofield, HR Manager at Varndean College.

This Session

Making Sense of Settlement Agreements

Despite Settlement Agreement’s having replaced Compromise Agreements nearly two years ago employers are still struggling with the Acas Statutory Code of Practice. What should be a straight forward option to disciplining or dismissing someone, can lead to the employee raising grievances and their solicitor negotiating considerably more money than the employer was initially prepared to pay.

This session will include:

  1. The pros and cons of using a Settlement Agreement
  2. When is it dangerous to offer a Settlement Agreement?
  3. How to offer a Settlement Agreement in line with the Acas Code
  4. Common errors when drafting a Settlement Agreement
  5. Taxation of Settlement Agreement Payments

Attendees will come away with everything they need to know to ensure their business is using Settlement Agreements effectively.
