Understanding Tenant Rights – UK Wide and Making Sense of Tenants Law
Legal advice for tenants
Advice about tenants’ legal rights is basic and fundamental to ensuring access to affordable and secure housing. Housing problems such as leasehold or tenancy rights disputes or disrepair can have a devastating short- and long-term effect on individuals and families.
We recognise that as a tenant or leaseholder, a housing law issue may coincide with other problems such as unemployment, ill health or disability. Knowing your tenancy rights or duties and having appropriate legal help at these times can prevent the situation turning into a crisis.
We also understand that in some cases you may have been unable to seek advice about tenancy law before the situation has reached a serious stage and that you need a solicitor who can act quickly and sympathetically.
At martin searle solicitors we offer legal advice for tenants and advice on your rights and responsibilities as a leaseholder, what options are available to you or what action you should take if things have already started to go wrong. We can help you argue your case by negotiating and making representations on your behalf and by acting for you in court proceedings where these are either advantageous to your case or unavoidable.
What will it cost?
We recognise solicitors’ charges can leave people feeling they have no access to the law. Often they go without help until the problem becomes critical. At martin searle solicitors we are committed to providing expert advice at affordable rates.
You may have the benefit of legal expenses insurance without being aware of it. Before making an appointment, we will determine whether you qualify for any of these funding options and discuss the alternatives.
Alternatively, you may want to see one of our solicitors using our fixed-fee initial interview scheme (£150 plus VAT). We provide a one-hour advice session to advise you on your tenant /leaseholder rights and the merits of any complaint against your landlord.
If it is necessary to instruct us to do further work after the initial interview, we will discuss funding rates appropriate to your financial circumstances.
