Welcoming Jon Wheale to our Employment Law Team

We are delighted to welcome Jon Wheale as the newest member of our Employment Law Team. Our firm has always hired more women than men so we are pleased to show our commitment to diversity by recruiting our fourth male employee.
Recruiting a new Employment Lawyer has been a long process as we were determined to find someone who shares our ethics and values, as well as being committed to our client focussed approach.
Jon is a rare commodity as he was called to the Bar at Inner Temple in 2014, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and was recently admitted as a solicitor. He brings a wealth of experience to our firm.
He was commissioned as an officer at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and served in the British Army for ten years, before returning to university to complete his LLB and Legal Practice Course.
He subsequently completed a Masters in Human Rights Theory & Practice at University of Essex and an advanced Masters in Law at Birkbeck. Jon went onto work for the United Nations and then managed risk for a number of market-leading businesses.
Jon’s recent career included returning to serve with the Royal Navy leading investigations into allegations of bullying, harassment and discrimination, and then as a Legal Advisor in the headquarters of the British Army, focusing on Service Complaints and Employment Law.
Jon still volunteers in the Family courts as a Presiding Justice and continues to be involved in supporting the Armed Forces community and veterans.
Like Jon, many of the lawyers at our firm have taken less-traditional routes to a career in law and have qualified later in life. We find this gives them the ability to see the bigger picture as they put their varied life experience into delivering the best results for our clients.
Fiona Martin, Director and Head of Employment Law, says: “Jon’s dedication to justice and work within the community holds with the values of our campaigning law practice. As we move towards becoming an Employee Owned Law Firm in April 2026, we believe that Jon will strongly contribute to our firm’s success for many years to come.
As our client base continues to grow, we welcome applications from other lawyers who are highly skilled in handling complex workplace discrimination cases for both employees and employers These need to be individuals who want to make a positive contribution towards equality and diversity as well as being prepared to contribute to the management and growth of our firm To see our latest job advertisement for an experienced Employment Lawyer, click here.
