Welcoming Daniel Godfrey to Our Employment Law Team as we open our New Office in Birmingham

Martin Searle Solicitors Team

This month we are opening our seventh office, in Birmingham, as we welcome Daniel Godfrey, the newest member of our employment law team.

Daniel has left Thompson’s trade union solicitors to join our specialist workplace discrimination law team. He is experienced in running high volume claims for employees and specialises in disability discrimination claims arising from neurodiversity and unfair dismissal claims.

Prior to this he worked for a national trade union and for trade associations. He has extensive experience bringing and defending claims in the Employment Tribunal.

Daniel’s skills in advising on complex and technical employment law issues, as well as carrying out his own advocacy, are a great addition to our heavyweight Employment Law Team. His arrival comes at a time when we are establishing an Employee Ownership Trust, so all employees become shareholders.

We are delighted to welcome Daniel to our Employment Law team. He has the same ethics and values that we hold dear – to promote our clients’ interests and to successfully settle, defend and win their cases.

Opening our new Birmingham office will attract many new clients as this is one of the busiest Employment Tribunal centres in the UK. While there are many corporate firms representing employers in Birmingham, there is a real need for more specialist Claimant firms that are affordable and fight for equality.

We provide plain-speaking advice at a fair price and settle cases early to avoid the expense of a full Employment Tribunal hearing. We also act as Freedom of Choice solicitors for those clients that have legal expenses attached to their home contents insurance that cover employment law claims.

Daniel says “I’m pleased to join Martin Searle Solicitors and to be instrumental in opening their Birmingham office. What drew me to the firm above all else is its identity as a campaigning practice — one that sees employment law not just as a technical discipline but as a vehicle for real change. That ethos resonates deeply with my own background. I’ve spent my career working closely with trade unions and workplace organisations, and that experience has given me a thorough understanding of workplace dynamics from all sides — something I know is just as valuable to the employers and HR teams I work with as it is to the individuals I represent. Martin Searle Solicitors feels like a natural home for this approach, and I’m excited about what lies ahead in Birmingham”

Since our firm was founded in Brighton in 2004, we have subsequently opened offices in Croydon, Gatwick & Crawley, Eastbourne, Haywards Heath and Shoreham, helping us bring our expert Employment and Community Care Law services to more people across the country. This year we were shortlisted for the Best Initiative of the Year in both Disability & Neurodiversity and Women in Law at the Legal 500 ESG Awards. This recognises organisations across the legal sector that demonstrate leadership in diversity and inclusion, sustainability, social mobility and pro bono work.

Daniel’s expertise and skills will be a great addition to our Employment Team as we continue to win cases with Marcus Wright being a prime example of why employers should treat their neurodiverse employees fairly. See the accompanying case study here.
