Our 8th Birthday = Alternative 80’s Party!

UPDATE: Due to the mass exodus for half term, and the fact that some of you are even leaving the country to avoid the Jubilee, we haven’t sold as many tickets as we’d like in order to support Adventure Unlimited. For this reason we’ve decided to postpone the event. Those of you who have already bought tickets will receive immediate refunds, and our thanks to you for supporting Adventure Unlimited.

The good news is that we’re going to run this as a Christmas party instead, with a provisional date of 6 December 2012 at Latest MusicBar. We’ll keep you posted as to the details.

Our firm will have been in existence for 8 years on 7 June 2012 and as we love throwing parties we have come up with the tenuous link of 8 years = an 80’s party! All proceeds will go to Adventure Unlimited, who will also be launching their new corporate events programme. This will involve outward bound teambuilding sessions for local companies to support their charitable work.

We are very excited that Simon Price, music journalist at The Independent on Sunday and famous for his Alternative 80’s night, Spellbound, will be the DJ for the night.

We would love it if all participants attend in 80’s attire – alternative or mainstream, if you really love those shoulder pads and bad hair. I will be digging out my crimpers and black clobber so I can re-enact my clubbing days at The Basement and Subterfuge.

Our usual collaborator at these events, Henry Butler from Butlers Wine Cellar, will be our compère and will judge best 80’s attired man and woman and best 80’s man and woman dancer. His response to our invitation was “I hate the 1980s, I went to school during it, I hate the fashion and a lot of the music.” We felt this was just the ticket as Simon Price advertises Spellbound as “the ‘80s club night for people who HATE 80’s nights.”

We all need to work on our dances to win a bottle of fizz. A word of warning though, I witnessed my best friend being carried off the dance floor having knocked herself out with her own knee, Ska dancing to The Specials. Incidentally, she celebrated her birthday yesterday with her leg in plaster having broken it disco dancing at a wedding. Marsden, you know who you are and you’re not joining in on our 80’s dance competition!

The tickets for this event will be £15 and can be bought online through the Buy Tickets button below. This price includes a delicious, locally-sourced buffet.

There will also be live music from David Golden performing 80’s hits from bands such as The Clash, The Jam and Soft Cell.

I look forward to seeing all of you who can join us on 7th June at Latest MusicBar, from 7pm – 2am, to celebrate our birthday and to support the great work that Adventure Unlimited carry out.

  • Booked! Looking forward to it. Luckily, I dress like an 80s throw-back anyway!

  • Sounds ace! Sadly I will be wearing my legwarmers (probably) and Farah trousers whilst on leave in France. Have fun and share the pics!

Hi, it sounds great and I would love to be there, but will sadly have to miss it as I will be away cycling in the Loire Valley. Hope you all have a wonderful time, and many congratulations on your 8th birthday!

  • The 80s were a bit of a blur for me..our first decade, you youngsters..Put me down for two..whether I come or not is debateable..I’ve thrown all my old clothes out …
